Rainbow Fan

We’ve seen this art project posted on Pinterest a few times and ran across a white fan in the basement just begging to be beautified. When we’ve seen other posts about this there are all sorts of variations people try but we wanted to stick to the original to see how well it would work.

The basic concept is that by painting the fan blades different primary colors we could produce a rainbow effect when the fan is turned on and the colors blur together. So, lets get to work!

What You’ll Need

  • Fan with White Blades (You can paint them white if needed)
  • Red, Blue, and Yellow permanent markers or paints
  • Drop cloth or paper to keep your table clean

The Details

This fun art project is simple and easy but you’ll definitely want to cover up whatever surface you’re coloring on. There is a guarantee that some of the marker or paint wont make it to the fan blades.

Steps

  1. Lay down your drop cloth or paper to prevent the table from getting colored.
  2. Remove the protective cage from your fan so you can get to the blades.
  3. Unscrew the center piece so the fan blade can be removed.
  4. Wash off any dirt or dust from the fan blades so that your color sticks.
  5. Color the fan blades with Blue, Red, and Yellow permanent markers or paints and let dry.
  6. Reassemble the fan and turn it on!.
  7. Take a picture or video to see the rainbow better.*

While this was a fun project, it didnt look quite as cool in person as it does in a picture. The fan spins so quickly you end up with more brown than rainbow. But when the fan is off it looks way more fun than before. If you take a picture or a video while it’s on the camera can capture your rainbow in all its glory.
